At the Taipei Game Show, we had the opportunity to sit down with Kentaro Asano, producer of The Witch and the Hundred Knight 2, and Kenzou Saruhashi, sales director at Nippon Ichi Software, to discuss the company’s localization strategies and future development plans. Thanks to the strong sales performance of the original The Witch and the Hundred Knight in Japan and a solid reception in Chinese-speaking regions, there were early discussions about launching a localized Chinese version. After careful evaluation, they decided to move forward with the Chinese localization of The Witch and the Hundred Knight 2.
The main reason behind this decision was the outstanding success of the previous game. Nippon Ichi now plans to consistently release at least one major Chinese-localized game on the PS4 platform every year. Other titles may also be localized, depending on how the market evolves.
Coming up in April, Nippon Ichi will launch a new adventure title called Exile Election, which will also offer a Traditional Chinese version. However, it may not be a simultaneous release, and the finalized date for the Chinese edition is still to be confirmed. As for other future projects, the team hinted that announcements would be made when the time is right.
When asked about expanding localization to the Nintendo Switch platform, the team expressed strong interest. Since Nippon Ichi and SEGA jointly attended the Taipei Game Show, possibilities for deeper collaboration, including in-game character crossovers, are on the horizon. Both companies are enthusiastic about potential partnerships, but final decisions depend on SEGA’s willingness to proceed.
Both representatives shared heartfelt messages to Chinese-speaking players, expressing their joy in introducing The Witch and the Hundred Knight 2 localized version at the Taipei Game Show. They hope that players will enjoy an experience as authentic and immersive as the original release. With rich world-building, detailed storylines, and artistic depth, they believe the game will deeply resonate with Chinese-speaking gamers.
Interest in the Nintendo Switch remains high. With Disgaea 5 already announced for Switch, Nippon Ichi stated that further Switch localizations would depend on evaluating sales performance in Chinese-speaking regions. The company will carefully review market data before committing to new Chinese-localized Switch games.
